William Joseph Mccarthy

Atty. William J. McCarthy III, 82, of Milton, DE and formerly of Springtown, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 7th, 2023. He was the beloved husband of Lane (Snyder) McCarthy for 47 years. Born in Baltimore, he was the son of the late William J. and Elaine (Sneed) McCarthy. He was a 1965 graduate of Guilford College and received his Law degree from Wake Forest School of Law in 1968. Throughout his career, he was a member of the Northampton and Lehigh County Bar Association. He began his practice with the former Richard Gasdaska Law Office. Following that, he worked with Atty. Clayton Hyman in the practice that became Hyman, McCarthy, and Engel, where he practiced for 27 years. In 1995, he opened the McCarthy Law Office in Hellertown where he continued his practice until his retirement in 2015. Throughout his career, he represented various financial institutions, municipalities, service organizations, and corporations, as well as being involved in real estate, matrimonial, and estate cases. He was a member of Saucon Lodge #469 of the F. & A. M. in Coopersburg. He was also a past board member of Christ Lutheran Church in Hellertown and a past member of the Rotary Club of Northampton.

Along with his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Meridith McCarthy and her husband, Joshua Bennicoff; and his grandchildren: Liam and Eile.

At his request, services will be held privately.
