William Gary Diehl, 69, of East Greenville, passed away peacefully with his beloved wife by his side on January 15, 2025. He was born to the late William Grant and Elizabeth (Hall) Diehl in Doylestown PA on February 18, 1955. His first ten years were spent growing up in the Maplewood development. Schoolmates who also attended Linden Elementary School and the Borough Elementary School were also playmates in the neighborhood. In 1965, William’s family moved to Ottsville, PA, where he attended Nockamixon Elementary School and Palisades Jr.-Sr. High School.

Bill followed in his family tradition of service to people and community. At age 17, he volunteered as a firefighter and trained to become among the county’s best and was later the first non-ambulance Emergency Medical Technician. Also volunteering as an ambulance attendant, he became an Advanced First Aid and CPR instructor then taught volunteers for a new ambulance service. At the same time, he volunteered as a Big Brother for two special programs boys. In addition to tutoring other college students, he prepared young probationers to earn their GEDs.

During his teen years, he worked in construction with his father. Following high school, William worked as an electrician before attending Bucks County Community College, graduating with high honors. William then transferred to California University of Pennsylvania and earned a degree in Social Work, with the highest honors. This led to being recruited as a Bucks County Fire/Rescue Instructor.

After taking a break from academics, he then pursued a Master of Public Administration at George Washington University in Washington DC. During graduate school, finding misplaced funding for U.S. military veterans was a primary pursuit.

Following failed treatments for a rare and aggressive form of cancer, William passed away at his home in East Greenville, PA on January 15, 2025, surrounded by family and friends.
