Wendy C. (Smith) Freed, 57, of Arlington, VA, died on Friday, September 18, 2009, at Georgetown University Hospital after a courageous battle with lung cancer. She was the beloved wife of Donald D. Freed. Born in Long Island, NY on April 14, 1952, she was a daughter of the late Thomas E. and Ethel (Woolley) Smith.
She was a 1977 graduate of the Washington Hospital Center School of Nursing. She began her 33 year career in that hospital upon graduation. She later advanced her professional credentials receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from George Mason University. Wendy spent her entire professional life helping others. She also had a wide variety of interests outside of the hospital, including a love for the outdoors, animals, reading, and supporting her local library and animal shelter.
Survivors: along with her husband, she is survived by a sister, Susan Laverti-Osborn and her husband, Alvi, of Monticello, NY; and a brother, Rev. Bruce C. Smith and his wife, Elizabeth, of Watertown, NY.
Memorial Services will be held on Monday, September 28 at 11:00 AM at Trinity Great Swamp Church, 9150 Spinnerstown Road, Spinnerstown, PA. Call from 10:30-11 AM at the church. A Memorial Service will be held in Washington, D.C. at a place and time to be announced. Falk Funeral Homes & Crematory, Pennsburg, is in charge of arrangements.
