Walter F. Dryfoos Sr., 72, of Allentown, passed away August 11, 2013. Born in Hazleton, PA, May 17, 1941, he was a son of the late Llewellyn F. and Mary (Fahringer) Dryfoos. He spent his entire adult life living happily in the Allentown area. Walter was a graduate of Ursinus College, Collegeville, with a BA in Economics. He was employed as a sales executive for RJ Reynolds, Allentown until he retired in the mid 1980’s. From 1967-1969, he served as the first Varsity Basketball Coach at Allentown College, now DeSales University. In his younger years, Walter excelled on the basketball court of his high school, MMI Preparatory School in Freeland, PA, and then at Ursinus College. He continues to hold all time records at both schools for scoring and was recently inducted into the MMI “Wall of Fame” for athletic achievement. He served as the president of the Ursinus College Alumni Association for a number of years during the 1970’s. Surviving are children: Walter Jr., and his wife, Kim, of Allentown; and Christine Nichols, of Goose Creek, SC; six grandchildren, Christopher and Nicholas Dryfoos; Lauren, Garrett, Allen, and Malachi Nichols; one great granddaughter, Ella Nichols; and his first wife, Bonnie Harrison. He was pre-deceased by a brother, Llewellyn F. Dryfoos, Jr. He was the husband of the late Peggy Amidon. Services will be on Thursday at 10 AM at the Falk Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1418 Main Street, Hellertown. Call from 9-10 AM. Interment will be in Mountainview Cemetery, West Hazleton.
