Thomas W. Loetzbeier

February 12, 1929 — December 16, 2022

Thomas W. Loetzbeier, 93, of Bath passed away December 16, 2022. He was the widower of Anne H. Loetzbeier. Born in Scottdale, PA, Thomas was the son of the late John P. and Elsie May (Sisco) Loetzbeier. He was a graduate of Scottdale High School where he played trumpet in the school band, was a catcher for the high school baseball team and dreamed of playing for the Pittsburgh Pirates. A Korean War Veteran, he served for 2 years in the 101st Airborne Division of the Army and was honorably discharged. He then attended Penn State University on the G.I Bill and earned a degree in civil engineering. He met the love of his life, Anne there and they married in 1957. Tom was employed at Ingersoll Rand as a technical writer and then at Mack Trucks World Headquarters where he was supervisor of technical publications. He continued to work as an archivist during retirement at the Mack Trucks Historical Museum, doing what he loved best, meeting new people, giving tours, and sharing his wealth of knowledge about Mack Trucks. Whenever Tom met someone who didn’t know about Mack Trucks or had done something kind for him, he would pull a Mack Bulldog pin from his pocket or off his coat to give them. He loved his immediate and extended families unconditionally and lit up whenever he was with them. Tom will always be remembered as someone who enjoyed a good breakfast, no matter what time of day and a gin martini, extra dry, with three olives.

Tom was a lifetime member of the F. & A.M., the Tall Cedars of Lebanon, the Syria Shriners International, and the Scottish Rite Northern Masonic Jurisdiction. Tom had the privilege of becoming a great-grandfather in 2020 which brought joy to his last few years of life.

Surviving are daughters: Ilsa and Susan; three grandchildren Tom, Kayleigh, and Rachel; a great-grandson, Owen; a sister, Emma widow of Thomas Jordan; two nieces and six nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Marjorie, widow of Edwin Bakken and Joseph Scott. A special acknowledgment of gratitude to all that encountered Tom while he was residing at Devon House in Allentown where he is greatly missed by staff and residents.

Services were private; however, a celebration of life is planned for spring.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Mack Trucks Historical Museum, 2402 Lehigh Parkway South, Allentown, PA 18103, Philadelphia Ronald McDonald House, or a charity of one’s choice.
