Thomas Joseph Hoy, 68, of Pennsburg and formerly of Pomona and Waretown, New Jersey passed away on Monday, September 11th, 2023 after a brief illness. Born in Norristown, he was a son of the late Donald and Barbara (Jarosz) Hoy. He was the former owner/operator of a railing and spiral staircase business in Pomona, New Jersey before retiring. Previous to that he worked at GPU Nuclear-Oyster Creek Power Plant in Forked River, NJ. He was a longtime first mate on the fishing vessel, Bad Dog.
Thomas is survived by his sons, Erik Hoy and his wife, Elisabeth of Wakefield, Rhode Island, and Kevin Hoy and his wife, Lauren of Springfield, Virginia; his grandchildren Mack (13), Nathan and Nolan (11), Hudson (9) and Eleanor (6). He is survived also by his siblings: Susan Evanik in California, Dennis Boyce in California, and Robin Hoy in New York. Brian Waltman was his long-time friend and an honorary member of the Hoy family.
Thomas (Tom) was known as a loyal friend, a loving and supportive father, and a proud grandfather. Despite minimal formal schooling, he was an excellent welder, a skilled mechanic, an
intelligent builder of all things metalwork, an able (if fun-loving) captain and first mate, a motorcycle enthusiast, a lifelong fisherman, and he loved all of his bulldogs fiercely. He was happiest in his workshop whenever he could be. He was honest, and brash, and well-loved. He was proud of the work that he did, and the trust that people put in him, but proudest of his sons and grandchildren. He will be missed immeasurably.
Services will be held privately.
