Ronald S. Treichler died on Saturday, January 7, 2012 at ManorCare Lansdale. Born in 1935 at the Steinman family homestead in Palm, PA, now known as Cab Frye’s Tavern, he was the son of the late Clarence Treichler and Mary (Steinman) Treichler of East Greenville. He graduated from the Chapel School and Muhlenberg College. He was a lifelong educator in the sciences, having begun his teaching career in Long Island, New York. After teaching in the Anneville-Cleona School District in Lebanon, PA, he taught in the Collegeville-Trappe School District, and its successor by merger, the Perkiomen Valley School District, where he continued his teaching career until his retirement. He served in the U.S. Army at Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio, Texas, from 1957 to 1959. Ronald enjoyed and fostered his lifelong passion for history, genealogy, the teaching and preservation of the Pennsylvania German dialect, and nature conservation. He delighted in his years of work with such organizations as the Goshenhoppen Historians and the Grundsow Lodge. He served as a board member of the Pennsylvania German Society, was vice president of the Hereford Township Heritage Society and the Schwenkfelder Library and Heritage Society. He co-authored and contributed to various books on the history of farming and on genealogy in the Perkiomen and Lehigh Valleys. He was also a proponent of nature conservation. Affectionately known as “Ronny” by his family and loved and valued by them for his sense of humor, thoughtfulness, and integrity, he was a gifted raconteur in both English and Pennsylvania German, and he taught several PA German language courses in and around East Greenville and Allentown. He was a member of the New Goshenhoppen United Church of Christ, East Greenville. Survivors include his brother, Samuel Treichler; sister-in-law, Amy of Palm; and niece, Laura Basara and her family; numerous cousins in the Treichler, Steinman, Graber, and Longacre families, including Carol Treichler Smith, wife of Robert Smith, Sr. of Green Lane; David Treichler, of Edwardsville; Aris and Barbara Harris of Allentown; Peter Harris and his wife Susan, of South Boston, MA; Judith Harris, of Lower Macungie and her companion Dr. Jack Mydlo; Scott, Shirley, and Joshua Kline, of Emmaus; W. Randy Treichler, of Three Springs; Mary Ann Hoffman, of Red Hill; Richard and Betty Graber, Keith, Neil, Peggy, and Tracy and their families in Iowa, and Marion Saul of Allentown. Services: At his request, there will be no public funeral or memorial service. A celebration of Ronny’s life will be held at the convenience of family and close friends in the future.
