Robert Alan Handwerk, 69, of Coopersburg, passed away peacefully on March 30, 2022 with his family by his side. Born in Slatington, he was the son of the late Norman and Eleanor (Rauch) Handwerk. After graduating with a Bachelor’s degree from Pennsylvania State University, Robert became a landscape architect. In the early 1970’s he spent time traveling through Europe and teaching architecture with the Peace Corps in Iran. After returning to the United States, Robert moved to Philadelphia where he met his future wife, Patricia. Together they began restoring and preserving historic properties. Following the birth of their son, Taylor, in 1983, they purchased the Harry Packer Mansion in Jim Thorpe. The mansion and adjoining carriage house were in disreapair and required extensive restoration. The family owned the property for thirty-eight years and turned it into one of the nation’s premier lodging destinations. Robert was most well known for his role as “Inspector Bob” at the mansion’s Murder Mystery Weekends. During his time in Jim Thorpe he was the president of the Kemmerer Park Board Association, Rotary Club member, Shade Tree commission member and honored by the Mauch Chunk Historical Society. He is survived by his loving wife: Patricia (Taylor) Handwerk, his son: Taylor Handwerk, his grandson: Greyson Handwerk, brothers: Norman Jr, Glen and Keith, sisters: Barbara and Janice (deceased).
