Raymond R. Shipe

Raymond R. Shipe, 82, of Pennsburg, passed away November 16, 2015 at home. He was the beloved husband of Dorothy (Diehl) Shipe and they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this month. Born in Perkiomenville, he was a son of the late William and Minnie (Yerk) Shipe. He proudly served his country in the United States Army and was a veteran of the Korean War, having served in France and Germany. He was employed for many years by the C.W. Hunsberger Estate in Green Lane and later by the Montgomery County Parks Department in Green Lane until he retired in 2000. His lifelong passion was cars and he enjoyed attending car shows and restoring classic cars. One of his favorite cars that he owned was a 1955 pink and white Ford Fairlane which he named "The Pink Lady". He was proud of his Pennsylvania Dutch heritage and enjoyed speaking Pennsylvania Dutch with others. He also enjoyed doing landscaping and outdoor work. Raymond was a lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Sumneytown. As a young man, he was an ambulance driver for Green Lane and became a lifelong member of the Green Lane Fire Co; He was a 50 year member of the Perkiomen Lodge #595 F&AM where he received the Gold Award in 2014; a member of the American Legion, Post #184, Palm; a member of the VFW, Post #5954, Red Hill; and a member of the Pike Township Sportsman's Association. Survivors: His wife, a daughter, Sharon Shipe of Pennsburg, and nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by brothers, William & Richard Sr., and an infant sister, Betty Marie. Services: will be at 11 AM on Saturday at the Falk Funeral Homes & Crematory, Pennsburg. Friends may call from 10-11 AM. Interment will be private.
