Phyllis Jane Ackerman, 92, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 15, 2026. Born on January 16, 1934, in East Greenville, PA, she was the daughter of the late George and Viola (Hagenbuch) Hillegass. She was the beloved wife of Clyde J. Ackerman Jr. for 61 years before his passing in 2015.

A life-time resident of the Upper Perkiomen Valley, Phyllis was baptized at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Pennsburg, and confirmed at New Goshenhoppen U.C.C. in East Greenville. She graduated from East Greenville High School in 1952, and married Clyde the following year. Her entire career was secretarial in nature, working at Berman Sales Co. in Pennsburg from 1950-1953, Eastern State Penitentiary's Graterford location from 1953-1955, St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Washington D.C. from 1955-1956, and after raising her children, worked in the office at the Upper Perkiomen High School from 1974-1995.

In her spare time, Phyllis enjoyed sewing, reading, cooking, and baking, and was known for her delicious cut-out cookies. She taught Sunday School and was a member of the Women's Fellowship at New Goshenhoppen, and volunteered with the American Red Cross' blood drive and Meals on Wheels. After their retirements, Phyllis and Clyde traveled throughout North America by car, train, and bus.

Phyllis is survived by her children: Constance Reynolds, wife of the late Mark of Glen Burnie, MD, Michael Ackerman and his wife Lori of Fleetwood, PA, Angela Hunter and her husband Robert of Ocean Pines, MD, and Stephen Ackerman and his wife Sheri of Emmaus, PA; nephew Gregory Stoudt of Telford, PA; grandchildren: April DeLillo and her husband Chad, Jenna Ackerman, Amanda Rossetti and her husband Nick, Alexander Pistolas and his wife Kyra, Hannah Brandis and her husband Colin, and Nathan Ackerman; and 9 great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, Phyllis was preceded in death by her sisters Florence McCoy and Bernice Hillegass.

A funeral service will be held on July 21, 2026 at 11:00 am at New Goshenhoppen United Church of Christ, 1070 Church Rd. East Greenville, PA 18041. Family and friends are invited to gather for a visitation from 10-11 am in the parlor.
