Peter Lucas Stollery

July 8, 1936 — August 1, 2024

Peter Lucas Stollery, 88, of Upper Black Eddy, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 1st, 2024. He was the husband of the late Joyce (Holt) Stollery. After spending several summers as a young teen working as a farm hand in rural Saskatchewan, Canada, Peter attended Delaware Valley Agricultural College, graduating in 1958, with an agricultural degree. Years later, after working the dairy farms of Bucks County, Peter met his future wife, Joyce while working farms in Iowa. Working a part time job with youth in Iowa, Pete was offered an opportunity to attend a graduate Social Work program at Drake University, from which he earned his Masters of Social Work degree. His career began under the direction of John R. Williams at the Youth Development Center (YDC) in Loysville, Pennsylvania, Pete credits John with teaching him how to be a boss. From there, he took a job as the Director of Youth Forestry Camp 6 in Aitch, Pennsylvania. Pete then created Community Commitment Incorporated in 1972 serving adjudicated youth and their families in Bucks and Lehigh counties, and his, this creation, carries on today.

Peter loved music and dancing, he was a true Iowa Hawkeye fanatic, and he preferred to drive Cadillacs whenever possible. Throughout his life he had a tendency to pick up strays, both animal and human, and offer whatever help he could. He also loved and embraced the challenge of helping difficult kids find their own pathway, his job and passion were much like matter and energy, one and the same. Yet he still managed to be a dedicated father and husband, not a single game of either child was ever missed.

Peter is survived by a son, Matthew Stollery and his wife, Vanessa, of Pennsburg; and a daughter, Gina Mannino, of Dublin Pa; his grandchildren: Ryan, Anthony, Tatiana "Tia", Riley, and Addison; and his sister, Sally Adamson and her family of Torch Lake Michigan, and his late brother John Stollery’s family of New Jersey.

A celebration of his life will be announced at a later date.
