Peggie Benfield-Shafer

Peggie Lynn Benfield-Shafer, 62, of Pennsburg, peacefully passed away surrounded by family on December 11, 2019. She was the beloved wife of Fred K. Shafer. Born in Sellersville, she was a daughter of the late Ralph and Elaine (Kline) Benfield. Peggie was a cashier and customer services representative at Walmart in East Greenville for 6 years. Prior to that, she was a technician for the former Plummer Precision Optics, Pennsburg for 22 years. Peggie spent her lifetime devoted to her family and helping others. For 28 years, she was a foster/adoptive mother with Best Nest of Philadelphia. She loved animals, going to the beach, and was a wonderful cook. She was the centerpiece of all family gatherings. She will be deeply missed by many. Surviving with her husband, are children: Shawn Benfield, and his wife, Kathryn, of Boyertown; Shannon Schwenk-Doup, of Pennsburg; Sue Ann Looumus, of Carlisle; Ashley Alford, of Stowe; Kourtney Lynn Shafer, and her significant other, Cory Marks, of Sellersville; and Kairi, Zoe, Jakob, Samuel and Jadyn Shafer, all of Pennsburg; 12 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and siblings: Luanne Benfield of Pottstown; Michael Benfield Sr., and his wife, Barbara, of Pennsburg; and Julie, wife of Tony Jeffers, of Macungie. She was pre-deceased by a son, Derrick Brokenbough-Shafer; and a brother, Ralph Benfield, Jr. A Celebration of Life will be held during the summer of 2020. The date and time will be announced later.
