Patricia B. Smith

Patricia B. "Pat" Smith, 94, of Zieglerville, passed away on Friday, February 6, 2026. Born on February, 25, 1931 in Natrona Heights, near Pittsburgh, PA, she was the daughter of the late Frances M. (Haslett) and Clarence A. Baechtel. She was the loving wife of the late James E. "Jim" Smith.

Pat proudly graduated from West Penn Nursing School class of 1952 and married Jim in 1956. They settled in Gibsonia, PA for 47 years and raised three children: Jim, Elaine, and Amy, in a neighborhood full of friendly neighbors and kids riding bikes from house to house. After a brief pause to start their family, Pat returned to work and enjoyed an increasingly successful nursing career, finally retiring as the Director of Nursing at Country Meadows of South Hills, a retirement community in Pittsburgh. She and Jim loved to travel, especially their yearly trips with the Jim Smith Society, meeting with other Jim Smith's from around the world. After moving to Frederick Living in 2003, Pat became an active member of the community. She enjoyed visiting family and friends, taking drives to enjoy the countryside and look for antiques, and spending Sundays cheering for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Family was her world and she cherished every moment she could spend with them. She was very proud of her grandchildren's accomplishments and especially thrilled by her grandson's recent visit to introduce his new fiancé, Lauren.

She will be lovingly remembered by her children, James A. Smith (Julie) of Cheyenne, WY, Elaine Newell (Jay) of Des Moines, IA, and The Rev. Amy Smith (Julie Kinzel) of Creamery, PA; grandchildren, Josh Newell (Lauren Wilson) of Winder, GA and Andie Newell of Los Angeles, CA. In addition, "Aunt Tish" will be missed by numerous beloved nieces and nephews. Patricia was preceded in death by her brothers, Robert Baechtel, James Baechtel and Dick Baechtel.

A service will be held on Saturday, February 14, 2026 at 2:30 p.m. at Frederick Living, 2849 Big Rd. Zieglerville, PA with the family receiving visitors before the service from 1:00 - 2:30. Entombment will be held on Monday, February 16, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. at Holy Savior Cemetery, Gibsonia, PA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Frederick Living Benevolent Fund or to St. Luke's Lutheran Church, 3206 Big Rd. Zieglerville, PA 19492.
