Nan Marie Rush

August 28, 1951 — September 22, 2025

Nan passed away on September 22, 2025, at her son’s home in East Greenville, Pennsylvania. Nan was an exceptionally talented pianist, an inspired writer and poet, a voracious reader, and a music-, film- and art-lover.

Born in Phillipsburg, New Jersey, Nan was the second of six children of John and Joella Rush. She earned a B.A. in English from Muhlenberg College in Allentown, PA. Nan was a passionate believer in women’s rights, serving as a founding member of the Lehigh Valley Feminist Writer’s Guild, spending five years as the Assistant Director of the Allentown Women’s Center, and managing a Planned Parenthood branch in Pennsylvania.

Later in life, she lived in Seattle, Washington and, for the last ten years, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. In both places, she loved exploring sites of natural beauty, immersing herself in the arts and culture scene, and making genuine connections with friends. She raised two children, Jennifer Robbins and Anthony Fischer, surrounding them with love and care, music and books, and her sharp wit, infectious laugh, and feistiness.

In April, before she knew she had pancreatic cancer, she traveled to Catalonia, Spain, where she had long wanted to travel. She loved exploring the rich neighborhoods of Barcelona, wandering through quaint, scenic small towns, and relishing excellent food and coffee. She approached that trip as she did her life: with curiosity, a free spirit, and a deep appreciation for music, art, and culture.

She is survived by both children and their spouses, her grandson, Nathaniel Somerville, and her five siblings, Jon Rush, Lydia Beard, Dorothy Sullivan, Loretta Becker, and Dan Rush. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation in her name to the ACLU, Planned Parenthood, or your local arts organization.

Arrangements entrusted to Falk Funeral Home, Pennsburg. Condolences may be offered at www.falkfuneralhomes.com.
