Max Robbins, 97, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 1, 2024, at Luther Crest in
Allentown, PA. He was born to Jacob and Ethel Kupsinel in 1927. He lived in Brooklyn, NY, and
graduated from the High School of Music and Art in Manhattan. He went on to complete his PhD
in Chemistry at Columbia University. He was immediately hired at Exxon Oil Company and spent his 35-year career as a Research Physical Chemist. There, he developed novel bioremediation technologies in response to the Exxon Valdez oil spill, which were later used to treat subsequent marine disasters. Retired in 1995, he moved to Pennsylvania to be closer to family.
Post-retirement, Max returned to his first love, classical music, and remained deeply committed to teaching and performing violin until the end of his life. He was Concert Master of the South Orange Symphony, West Orange Y Symphony and Little Newark Symphony and was a well-
respected string teacher in New Jersey. His performances at nursing homes, churches and schools brought great pleasure to his audiences, including his home community of Luther Crest.
Max was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his beloved wife of 72
years, Helen (Miner) Robbins, his adoring children, Miryam and Shneor Zatloff, Donna Gardos,
Jacob Robbins, Sharon and Gary Trinker, and Gwynne and Owen Dunne, and his twelve doting
grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren. He will be sorely missed by all.
