Margaret "Peg" Merkley, 61, of Bechtelsville, died September 7, 2011. She was the beloved wife of Robert Merkley. In August they celebrated 37 years of marriage. Born in Monticello, NY, she was a daughter of Ethelyn (Blowers) Reed of N. Chili, NY, and the late George Reed. She was a graduate of Robert Wesleyan College and held a Master of Arts from West Chester University. For most of her career, Peg was a reading specialist at New Hanover / Upper Frederick Elementary School n the Boyertown School District. She was a member of Shepherd of the Hills Church in Bechtelsville, where she was instrumental in the creation of the Christian Pre-school. She was an avid quilter and loved to sew and do needlework. She also loved to do crossword puzzles and was an avid mystery reader. She and her husband enjoyed attending Shakespeare productions. Surviving with her husband and mother are a son Charles "Chip" and his wife Michelle of Coatesville; and a daughter Lauren wife of Ben Powell of Harrisonburg, VA; a grandson Jordan; a brother Glen Reed and his wife Kathy, and a sister Janet Reed, both of N. Chili, NY. A celebration of her life will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at Shepherd of the Hills Church. All are invited to gather at the church from 6 - 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Shepherd of the Hills Christian Pre-School, 527 Hoffmansville Rd., Bechtelsville, PA 19505.
