Lucy-Jo Herman

November 5, 1935 — April 17, 2026

Warminster

Lucy-Jo ("LJ") Herman, of Warminster, PA, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 17th at the age of 90. She was born in Colonial Heights, Virginia, and was raised in the Olney section of Philadelphia. She was the only child of Lucy and Joseph Malloy. From an early age, LJ developed a vivid imagination, a quick and lively wit, and a deep love of words-qualities that distinguished her throughout her life.

She attended Girls High in Philadelphia and graduated at age twenty from the College of Liberal Arts for Women at the University of Pennsylvania where she received a Bachelor of Arts ('56). LJ built an exceptional career in writing, communications, and advertising. She served as Vice President of Harriet Carter and Chief Copywriter at Day-Timers, where her command of language, humor, and work ethic served her well.

She authored several books, and her poetry was published in respected outlets like Harper's Magazine. A skilled Scrabble and Upwords player, LJ would routinely complete the New York Times crossword puzzle- in ink and in one sitting! LJ's other great passions were opera and travel.

Her life was marked by service. After moving to Ann's Choice, where she lived for twenty years, LJ created a program called "Schmaltz," a playful nod to opera's melodramatic flair. Through it, residents enjoyed performances while proceeds funded scholarships for Ann's Choice employees. She also founded the Bucks County chapter of the Sunshine Foundation and led fundraising efforts for Mercy Special Learning Center, most notably, her annual Big Band Brunch. For her decades of service, LJ received both presidential and state honors, most recently in 2018

LJ was a grandmother to eleven (Oli, Theo, Colin, Stephen, Sophia, Aidan, Natalie, Jack, Ben, Constantine, Anthony), and great-grandmother to four. She was predeceased by her husband William "Bill" Herman and former husband Constantine Stephano. LJ Herman is survived by her children Michael Stephano, Philip Stephano (Ileana), Lisa Stephano, and Emily (neė Herman) Comer (Bob), along with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all those whose lives she enriched. Her family is grateful that The Spirit of love and peace accompanied her in her final days.
