Lois M. Nelms (Hammond)

Lois M. (Hammond) Nelms, 89, of Harleysville, PA and formerly of Blandon, PA, went home to her eternal home on Tuesday, June 11, 2024. Lois was born June 5, 1935, in Bucyrus, Ohio, the only child of the late Victor and Lela E. (Stanton) Hammond. She was a 1953 graduate of Columbian High School in Tiffin, Ohio. Lois made the decision to follow Christ as a young child and that decision guided her entire life. She served as youth leader, worship leader and Sunday School teacher for many years in churches in Ohio and Pennsylvania.

Lois was a 1970 graduate of Northeast Bible Institute in Green Lane, PA (now University of Valley Forge in Phoenixville, PA). While attending Northeast Bible Institute, she worked as a secretary at New Life Boys’ Ranch in Harleysville. In 1972, she was invited back to her AlmaMater where she served in various office positions, including administrative assistant to four college presidents. The final ten years, she worked in the J. Robert Ashcroft Library at the university before retiring on January 2, 2004.

Lois married Mr. Jan W. Nelms of Nanticoke, PA, on June 22, 1985. Together they were involved in hospital and hospice ministry for several years. He preceded her in death on July 3,2014.

Lois is survived by cousins Harold C. Seiple, of Simpsonville, SC, and Ruth Schick (Phillip Schick, deceased) of Warren, OH. She was preceded in death by cousin, James A. Stanton (Sandy Stanton, surviving) of Warren, OH.

Her funeral service will be held on Friday, June 21, 2024, at 10:30 AM at the Peter Becker Community Chapel, 800 Maple Ave., Harleysville, PA. Friends may visit from 9:30 AM until the service. She will be laid to rest beside her husband at New Goshenhoppen Cemetery, 1070 Church Road, East Greenville, PA.
