Leroy Oelschlager

July 24, 1927 — April 21, 2013

Judge LeRoy Slemmer Oelschlager, 85, of Green Lane, passed away April 21, 2013. He was the husband of Doris Jane (Lynch) Oelschlager. Born in Telford, he was a son of the late Ephraim Y. and Katie U. (Slemmer) Oelschlager. LeRoy received a BS in Criminal Justice from Penn State. He began his career as a Justice of the Peace in Red Hill, and then became a Montgomery County District Justice, retiring in 1988. He also served for 3 years as the Senior District Justice in Montgomery County. LeRoy received a citation from the PA House of Representatives, presented by Rep. Bob Mensch, for "Five Decades of Dedicated and Distinguished Service to the Upper Perkiomen Valley". He was a life member and past president of the Upper Perkiomen Lions Club. Within Lions, he served as District Governor, was the State Convention Representative for District 14-R, was a life member of the PA Lions Laser Center, the Pa State Council of Lions Clubs, and the PA Counselors' Assn. He received the 100% District Governor's Award, the International President's Commendation Award, the Distinguished Service Award, the International President's Award, and four International President's Certificates of Appreciation. LeRoy was a Progressive Melvin Jones Fellow, a Master Key Holder, and an honorary member of the Harleysville Lions Club. LeRoy received the Order of Merit Award, the Scouter's Key Award, and the Legion of Honor Award from the Chapel of the Four Chaplains, Valley Forge Chapter of the Boy Scouts of America. He was a member and past secretary of the Upper Salford and Red Hill Fire Companies. He was a past Board member of the Open Line, Kencrest, the Upper Perkiomen Valley Chamber of Commerce, and the PA Lion Beacon Lodge Camp. He was a past Marlborough Township Supervisor. LeRoy was a member of the Advent Lutheran Church in Harleysville, and a past president and board member of the Old Goshenhoppen Cemetery Assn. Surviving with his wife of 63 years, are children: LeRoy Mark, and his wife, Anna, of Woodstock, GA; Judith, wife of David Formalarie, of Annandale, NJ; Richard, and his wife, Denise, of Norristown, PA; Patricia, wife of Toy Tachayapong, of Emmaus, PA; Russell, and his wife, Barbara, of Mountain Top, PA; and Janet, wife of John Pescatore, of Lawrence, NY; grandchildren: Nathan Day, Russell Oelschlager, Jr., and his wife, Stacey, Patricia Oelschlager, Timothy Tachayapong, Rachel, wife of Mark Holzhauer, Kathryn Fleury, Michelle Fleury, Annika Oelschlager, and Zachary Oelschlager; and great-grandsons: Zachary Greer and Russell Oelschlager. He was pre-deceased by a sister, Arlene Landis. Services will be on Thursday at 11 AM at Advent Lutheran Church, 470 Landis Road, Harleysville, PA 19438. A viewing will be from 6-9 PM on Wednesday at the Falk Funeral Homes & Crematory, 163 Main Street, Pennsburg, and from 10-11 AM Thursday at the church. Interment will be at Old Goshenhoppen Cemetery, Woxall. Contributions: In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Church Memorial Fund OR to the UPV Lion's Club.
