Leroy Heffentrager

Leroy Heffentrager, 94, of Pennsburg, passed away November 5, 2014 at Frederick Living. He was the husband of the late Anna M. (Rhoads) Heffentrager. Born in Pennsburg, he was a son of the late Charles and Annie (Levengood) Heffentrager. Leroy was a 1937 graduate of Pennsburg High School and a graduate of the Lansdale Business School. He served in the 8th Army, 25th Division of the Infantry and the Army Band during WWII. Leroy worked as a delivery man for the former Brunner Bakery for 8 years. He also was a cookware salesman for Kitchen Craft for 20 years, and worked for 26 years in both the Pennsburg and East Greenville Post Offices. He started his own band, “The Leroy Heffentrager Band” in 1950, and also played with the Red Hill Band for 34 years. Leroy was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Pennsburg. He was the Hauptman of the Grundsow Lodge #7 since 1969. An active mason, he was a member of the Perkiomen Chapter # 595, F. & A.M.; the American Legion Post 184, East Greenville, VFW Post 5954, Red Hill, the Tall Cedars, Forest #146, the Lehigh Consistory, the Square Club, and the Rajah Shrine, Reading. He enjoyed riding his motorcycles and was a life member of the Blue Comet Motor Cycle Club. Surviving are four daughters: Sandra A. Barrow, of Quakertown; Carole, wife of William Nester, of Pennsburg; Susan, wife of William Walizer, of East Greenville; and Linda, wife of Russell Fretz, of Pennsburg; 12 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. He was pre-deceased by half-sisters: Marian Schlicher and Sarah Pomerantz. Services will be at 11 AM on Saturday, Nov. 8th at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 81 N. Main Street, Pennsburg. A viewing will be from 9-11 AM Saturday at church, with a Masonic Service at 10:45am. Interment will follow at St. Mark’s Cemetery. The Falk Funeral Homes & Crematory, Pennsburg, is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made the church or to the Rajah Shrine, PO Box 40 Blandon, PA 19510.
