January 27, 1927 — November 25, 2018

Joyce Eckert Metteer, age 91, passed away peacefully on November 25 surrounded by her family. Born on January 27, 1927 in Kelseyville, CA, she was the daughter of Marta (Hukkanen) Eckert and August Eckert. She was a first generation American as her parents immigrated from Finland and Germany. Joyce grew up in Kelseyville, Calistoga and Berkeley, graduating from Kelseyville High School. She obtained her Associate Degree from Santa Rosa Junior College. She then lived in Los Angeles working for Hughes Aircraft and Shell Oil. She raised her family in Sunnyvale and Lakeport, CA working as a legal secretary and county court clerk. While in Lakeport, she was a 4-H Club leader, Cub Scout leader and early member and supporter of Lake County’s first swim team. Her home was a regular gathering place for high school students before local sporting events. She eventually moved back to the home she was born in to care for her elderly parents. Joyce was a member of the Kelseyville Presbyterian Church and active in the women’s group. For the last years of her life she lived in Bethlehem, PA with her daughter and family. She enjoyed being in the company of her grandchildren and their young friends and was an avid reader. Joyce is survived by her daughter, Amy Metteer-Storer (Bob Storer), grandchildren Bobby Storer and Andrea Storer (August Martin), cousins Harvey Hukkanen and Rudi Eckert and niece Brenda Bonife. She was predeceased by her son, George Eric Metteer. The service and burial will be at a later date in Kelseyville, CA.
