Joseph "Joe" Verba, age 89, of Hellertown, died October 2, 2012. He was the husband of the late Irma (Simon) Verba. They were married on February 18, 1957 and celebrated 55 years of marriage before her passing in May of this year. Born on January 21, 1923 to the late John and Lydia (Feke) Verba, Joseph was a life-long resident of Williams and Lower Saucon Townships. Born into a large and loving family, Joe loved babies and children. He had a magical way of getting even the fussiest baby to fall asleep. Joe also loved the Great Outdoors. He was a hunter and a naturalist. He was employed by the former Bethlehem Steel Corporation for 42 years. At the end of his employment, Joe was a supervisor in the Alloy and Tool Steel Division. Joe loved watching sports and outdoor programs. He was a member of a bowling league during his years at the Steel, a life-long member of the American Legion, Post #397, Hellertown; and a former Marine stationed in the Pacific during WWII. Joseph was a member of St. Theresa's Church, Hellertown. Surviving is a son, Richard, and his wife, Barbara, of Whitehall; a daughter, Linda Heck, of Coopersburg; 4 grandchildren: Heather, wife of Christopher Parrillo; Lori Verba, John Heck, and Lydia Heck, and his loving and caring former son-in-law, Jeff Heck; 3 great-grandchildren; and his baby brother, Arthur and his wife Joy, of Hellertown. Joe was pre-deceased by four brothers and four sisters. A funeral Mass will be on Saturday at 10 AM at St. Theresa's Catholic Church, 1408 Easton Road, Hellertown. A viewing will be from 8:30-9:30 AM on Saturday at the Falk Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1418 Main Street, Hellertown. Interment will be at Union Cemetery, Hellertown.
