Joan Fekula

September 30, 1931 — September 9, 2014

Joan Patricia Fekula, 82, of Bethlehem, passed away on September 9, 2014 in Cedarbrook Fountain Hill Nursing Home surrounded by her loving family. Born in Scranton, Pa, Joan was the daughter of the late Michael and Genevieve (Fitzpatrick) Lorsong. She was a 1949 graduate of Liberty High School in Bethlehem. Joan was married to Adam J. Fekula for 63 years. She would have celebrated her 83rd birthday and her 64th wedding anniversary on September 30th of this year. While raising four children, Joan also worked as a medical assistant for the late Dr. S.H. Mirbach. She was a member of Notre Dame Church in Bethlehem, where she had served as a High Eucharistic Minister. Furthermore, Joan had been an active and selfless volunteer for various organizations in her community. In addition to her husband, Joan is survived by son Patrick and his wife Cyndee of Jacksonville, Florida; daughter Kathlene F. Cutcliffe of Bethlehem; son Michael J. Fekula and his wife Jackie of Evans, Georgia; daughter Joan (Jode) Fekula of Bethlehem; daughter-in-law Kay Fekula of Colorado; and brother Michael Lorsong of Bethlehem. She was dearly treasured by her eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Joan is also survived by niece Debbie Turton, her husband Phil, and their two daughters as well as her cousin, Patricia Schilling, all of Bethlehem. Additionally, she loved and was loved by her extended family, Sue, Jack, and Amy Lawrence of Bethlehem. Joan was predeceased by her brother Gerard Lorsong of Geneva, NY. A memorial service for Joan will be held Saturday, September 20th at 3 PM at Lutheran Manor, 2085 Westgate Drive, Bethlehem, PA 18017. Friends and relatives are invited to attend. Joan’s family would like to thank the incredibly compassionate and dedicated staff at Cedarbrook Fountain Hill who lovingly cared for “Joanie” during her illness. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent in memory of Joan P. Fekula to Cedarbrook Fountain Hill Station Five, 724 Delaware Avenue, Fountain Hill, PA 18015.
