Jay Hughes

October 10, 1942 — February 21, 2012

Jay T. Hughes, 69, of Coopersburg, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, at the home of his son in East Greenville, on February 21, 2012. He was the beloved husband of Katharine (Fairty) Hughes. He was born in Trenton, NJ and served his country honorably in the Army during the Vietnam War. He graduated from Utah State University with a degree in Wildlife Management and went on to receive a Masters in Education from Lehigh University. He was a sixth grade teacher in the Quakertown Community School District for 28 years, retiring in 1999. He was a past president of the Quakertown Community Education Association. Jay was an avid Philadelphia sports fan and he was a former Southern Lehigh Little League coach. He was also a member of the American Poolplayers Association as well as an avid hunter and fisherman. Survivors: Wife; son Steven and his wife Dana of East Greenville, and daughter Amy wife of Eric Duchnowski of Perkiomenville; and a beloved granddaughter: Kaley Hughes. Services: 11 am, Monday, Falk Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1418 Main St, Hellertown. Call at the funeral home from 9:30 - 11. Inurnment will take place at 11:30 am, on Tuesday in the Washington Crossing National Cemetery, 830 Highland Rd., Newtown PA 18940.
