J. Byron “Doc” Comly, 88, of East Greenville, died Tuesday, September 9, 2008 at the Colonnade of Schwenksville. He was the loving husband of June (Eavis) Comly. Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late J. Byron Comly Sr., and Anna (Harding) Comly. He and his wife owned the former Comly Flower Shop, Bustleton for 36 years before retiring in 1981. He also worked at the former E.G. Budd Co. and the former Crown Can Co., both of Philadelphia. In addition, he was a part time funeral assistant, first at the Fletcher Funeral Home in Bustleton, then for the Zimmerman Funeral Home, and more recently the Falk Funeral Home in Pennsburg. Doc was a former member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, Bustleton. He was a staff sergeant in the Army Air Corps during WWII, serving in both the Caribbean and the Pacific Theaters. He was a member of Harry A. Houseman Lodge 717, F&AM, Somerton, for over 50 years. He was a founding member and past commander of the Bustleton Memorial American Legion, #810. He was past vice president of the Board of Helping Hands; a past president of the Republican Club of Upper Montgomery County; a member and past director of the Upper Perkiomen Kiwanis; a member and past board member of the Upper Perkiomen Valley Chamber of Commerce; a past board member of the former Community Chest of the Upper Perkiomen Valley; and a member and past vice president of the Upper Hanover Industrial Development Authority. Surviving with his wife, is a son, Craig, and his wife Chrissy, of East Greenville; a daughter, Patricia Ann, wife of Douglas Hunter, of Drexel Hill; a brother, Edward, of Philadelphia; a sister, Margaret, wife of Allen Beaumont, of Englewood, FL; 10 grandchildren; and 7-great-grandchildren. Services will be at 11 AM on Saturday at the Falk Funeral Homes & Crematory Inc, Pennsburg. Friends may call on Friday from 6-8 P.M. and Saturday from 10-11 A.M. at the funeral home.
