Irene Birkel

Irene (Slavicz) Birkel, 86, recently of Saucon Valley Manor, Hellertown, died December 7, 2007 at St. Luke’s Hospital, Fountain Hill. She was the widow of Joseph A. Birkel, who died in 2005. Born in Bethlehem, she was a daughter of the late Michael and Mary (Sebjanics) Slavicz. She attended Liberty High School. She and her husband owned and operated an Insurance and Real Estate Office in Hellertown for over 30 years. She was a member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church, Bethlehem. Survivors: Son Joseph E. Birkel, and his wife, Stacy, of Bethlehem; daughter, Sandra Reeves, of Delaware, grandchildren, Andrew, Spencer, Nathaniel, Joshua, and Vicki; great-grandchildren, Thomas and Morgan; and siblings, Edward Slavicz and Eleanor Roth, both of Bethlehem. Services: Funeral Mass, Tuesday, 10 am at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, 417 Carlton Ave, Bethlehem. Visitation Monday 6-7:30 pm, Falk Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1418 Main Street, Hellertown. Interment will be at Holy Ghost Cemetery, Fountain Hill. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Holy Ghost Catholic Church.
