Glenn L. Balliet, age 82, of Springtown, PA, died on September 25, 2021 at St. Luke's Hospice House. He was born May 11, 1939 in Quakertown, to Edna (Cressman) Balliet and James Russel Balliet. Glenn grew up in Springtown, earned his B.A. at Muhlenburg College, Allentown, and his M.Ed. at Lehigh University. After teaching elementary school at Palisades School District for 31 years, Glenn spent most of his time volunteering at Silver Creek Athletic Association (SCAA) in Springtown, where he coached, performed grounds maintenance, and enjoyed fellowship. Glenn participated in the Tri-County Baseball League, for 23 years as a player, and then as an umpire and League treasurer. In the 1981 season his batting average was .354. His baseball card is viewable at silvercreekathleticassociation.com/memories.html Glenn was a compassionate, generous, larger-than-life soul. He was a devout Christian. He was quick to laugh, especially at his own foibles. He maintained friendships with many people from his days at Palisades, his involvement with SCAA, his church, and his community. In his later years Glenn worked diligently on custom-made mixed-media collage artworks which celebrated his love for Jesus Christ. He was quite prolific, producing these works sometimes at a rate of one per day, and he would send them to a wide variety of folk, even the most casual of acquaintances. Glenn also spread his message on the back of his beloved red pickup truck, which he enjoyed driving leisurely around town. Glenn is survived by his cousins Robert (Sandy) Balliet, and William (Terri) Balliet. On Thursday, Oct. 14, 2021 at 11 a.m. there will be a brief graveside service for Glenn at Springtown Cemetery. Unvaccinated attendees are requested to wear masks and maintain physical distancing. In lieu of flowers, please send contributions to SCAA or Christ Lutheran Evangelical Church, both in Springtown, PA.
