Gertrude Louise Kastner

Gertrude L. Kastner, 97, of Country Meadows, Allentown, and formerly of East Greenville and Telford, passed away September 16, 2021. She was the widow of Otto W. Kastner. Born in Spiegelberg, Germany, she was a daughter of the late Karl and Luise (Klenk) Gauker. After emigrating to this country, she married Otto and moved to the family farm, where she worked side by side with her husband. Gertrude also cleaned houses for several families within the area, and then went to work at the former Peerless Footwear in Telford for many years as a sewing machine operator. She enjoyed crochet, jigsaw puzzles, cooking & hummingbirds. Surviving are daughters: Ellen Kastner and her fiancé, Alan Jurin, of Slatington; and Linda, wife of Donald Schmoyer, of Macungie; a brother, Erich Gauker and his wife Wally, of Spiegelberg, Germany; grandsons: Christopher Schmoyer, and his wife, Jacqueline; and Thomas Schmoyer; and great-grandsons: Charlie and Hank Schmoyer. She was pre-deceased by a sister, Elfriede Westrich, and a nephew, Dieter Westrich. The family wishes to extend a heartfelt “thank-you” to all of the caring staff at Country Meadows, Quality Care 4 U Home Care, and Bayada Hospice. Services will be private.
