George Schneider

George Andrew Schneider, 88, of Myerstown, formerly of Hellertown, PA and Collingswood, NJ, died Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at the Good Samaritan Hospital, Lebanon, PA. He was the husband of Mary E. (Kern) Schneider to whom he was married 32 years on November 22, 2012. Born in Williams Twp., PA on July 18, 1924, he was the son of the late William and Hilda (Anderson) Schneider. He attended Hellertown High School and later earned a bachelor's degree in history at Rutgers State University of New Jersey. He was a paratrooper in the U.S. Air Force and was awarded a Purple Heart for his service in the Battle of the Bulge. He was employed as a buyer by the RCA/GE Corp., Camden, NJ, for over 25 years until his retirement. He previously worked as a police officer in Hellertown. A member of the Order of Freemasons, he was a member of the VFW, and a life member of the Disabled American Veterans. An avid golfer, he also served on the board of trustees of the Merchantville Country Club in New Jersey. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son Larry, husband of Mayretta Schneider of Gibbsboro, NJ and his two daughters Karen Green of Collingswood, NJ and Brenda, wife of Joseph Sandsjo of Fredericksburg, PA; step-sons Charles Stephen Knause of Ormond Beach, FL and Donald J. Kern and wife Karen of West Chester, PA; 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandcildren and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 19, 2013 at 11 a.m. from the Falk Funeral Home and Crematory Inc., 1418 Main St., Hellertown. A viewing will be held Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Grose Funeral Home, 358 W. Washington Ave., Myerstown, and Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Falk Funeral Home. A Masonic Service will be held Friday at 5:45 p.m. at Grose Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Union Cemetery of Hellertown. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the National Parkinson Foundation, 1501 NW 9th Ave. / Bob Hope Rd., Miami, Florida 33136-1494.
