Elwood (Woodie) R. Eyer left us Friday, March 27, 2020 to be with his Dear Lord and family in Heaven. He was a resident of Hellertown, PA for many years until the past 3 ½ years when he lived in Easton, PA.
All who knew him, knew his as “Woodie”. He was the son of Elwood J. Eyer and Maria (Redfern) Eyer, born May 14, 1941 in Easton, PA. He graduated from Nazareth High School in 1959. He was employed by Bell and Howell retiring after 35 years of service.
Woodie offered his services as a Firefighter to the Tatamy Fire Company as an active member from 1963 to 1993. He was the Fire Chief for Tatamy Fire Company from 1971 to 1980. He was determined to have the firefighters practice the best and safest methods of service for themselves and the community. He initiated, developed the idea to construct and saw the project to completion of the firefighter training facility known as the Northampton County Fire School. He was a firefighting Instructor for 14 years. Woodie was a life member of Tatamy Fire Company, the 4 County Fireman’s Association, and Keystone State Fire Chief’s Association. In addition, Woodie was an avid Penn State fan. He will always be remembered in the firefighting family and will be truly missed.
Woodie is survived by his loving wife: Beverly Baker-Eyer, his daughter Lori Bender and her husband Kenny, his stepsons: Wade Burnhauser, Jr. and Michael Emory, Dillon Billings and stepdaughter: Heidi Skiendziel and husband Joshua. He also is survived by his grandchildren: Beth Ann Pettis and Steve, Samantha Hess and her husband John, Eric, Jesse, Andrew Bender and wife Trish, Taylor and Wade Burnhauser III, great grandchildren: Seth, Faith, Olivia, Colton, Brody, Braelyn and niece Christine Femick. He is predeceased by his parents, his sister Joanne Femick and son Jeffrey.
Woodie was a thoughtful, caring and devoted husband. He was a warmhearted soul who was friendly to all and generous to those in need. He was a quiet man with an easy smile and a willingness to see humor in life. He was a gentle man and a man of strong faith. Woodie will be missed by all whose lives he touched and will always be loved by his family and friends.
Funeral Arrangements for Woodie are being made by Falk Funeral Homes & Crematory in Hellertown, PA.
