Ella Mae Womer, 'Kitty', 99, of Damascus Twp., Wayne County, PA, passed away Sunday, October 26, 2025 at Country Meadows, Bethlehem Twp, PA. She was born in Saint Marys, WV on October 17, 1926 to the late John Kenneth and Elsie Christina (Schauwecker) Varner. As a girl, she enjoyed singing, swimming, sunbathing, ice skating, and playing the piano. She had her own basketball team with their own cheer. Her father's job kept the family moving and when she graduated high school, Ella Mae had attended 33 different schools, sometimes moving to different homes on the same street. She graduated from Ocean City High School, NJ on D Day in 1944. As a young bride, she was given the name Kitty and went by it the rest of her life. While raising her children, she volunteered for the Cancer Society, girl scout camp and as a church choir director. She earned her Associate Degree in Fine Arts and went on to own "the art spirit," an art gallery in Clinton, New Jersey, where she showcased her passion for creativity and supported local artists. She loved knitting and gifted many of her creations. Her final career was as a park ranger for the National Park Service. She was an avid and consummate solo canoeist. She taught white-water canoeing and won an award for her oral history projects of the local railroad and canal.
Kitty was loved and admired by many. She will be missed and remembered fondly.
Survivors: children: Christie Davey of Damascus Twp., Candace Lynn Womer of Easton, Roy Edward (Linda) Womer, Jr. of Saylorsburg, Mark T. (Carolyn) Womer of Lopatcong, NJ, Geoffrey S. (Katy) Womer of Bridgewater, NJ; grandchildren: Casey, Mallory, Braidyn, Brooke, Mark Jr, Portia, Alex, Alyssa, Mae and Rosalina; 2 great grandchildren: Eamon and Piper. She is predeceased by her first husband: Roy Womer Sr, granddaughters: Amity and Raegan Hoeft, and Kitty's dear partner Valois Young.
