Elizabeth Kirkpatrick

Elizabeth M. Kirkpatrick, 92, of Riegelsville, died November 23, 2010. She was the loving wife of the late Eugene H. Kirkpatrick, who died in 1996. Born in the Summit Lawn area of Allentown, she was a daughter of the late Frank Pelland and the late Martha (Schreiter) Pelland Wenner; and, step-daughter of the late Charles Wenner. She graduated from the Allentown General Hospital School of Nursing in 1939. She started her career as an operating room nurse at Allentown General, and then practiced private duty nursing for several years. She and her husband owned and operated the Kirk’s Inc. Oil Company, Pleasant Valley from 1966 until retiring in 1989. Their son, Eric, joined them as a partner in 1976. She was a member of the Durham Evangelical Lutheran Church, Durham. She was a charter member of the Springfield Twp. Lioness Club; was a long time member of the Springtown Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary; was a member of the Durham Historical Society; an original member of the Durham Planning Committee; and was on the Election Board of Durham for 40 years. In addition, she was a member of the Lehigh Valley Flower Club, and a member of various pinochle and bridge clubs. Surviving: is a son Eric, and his wife, Angela, of Durham; a sister, Charlotte Mammana, of Easton; granddaughters: Kimberly B. Hauser, Ericka Kirkpatrick, and Nichole M. Kirkpatrick, Petty Officer, 1st Class, US Navy, Washington, DC; great-grandchildren: Brandy, Jamie, and Ethan; nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was pre-deceased by her husband; a sister, Dorothy “Dottie” Hontz; and brother-in-laws, Lloyd Hontz and Joseph Mammana. Services: a Celebration of Life service will be on Saturday, December 18th at 1 PM at the Durham Evangelical Lutheran Church.
