Eleanor P. Eckman, 86, of Red Hill, passed away on December 29, 2016, at the home of her daughter, Linda Paul in Hereford. She was the widow of Russell C. Eckman, who died in 1997. Born in Dixon City, PA, she was the daughter of the late Stanley and Catherine (Tyak) Stemphowski. She moved to the Upper Perk Valley in 1997 and was proud to make it her home. She volunteered at the Upper Perk Thrift Shop and the Senior Center and was always helping people at the Upper Perk Manor where she spent her final years. Early in life, she served as a Crossing Guard in Philadelphia where her daughters were raised. Surviving are her two daughters: Jane Benning of Red Hill, and Linda, wife of Jack Paul of Hereford; grandchildren: Michael Benning and his wife Christina, Kristen Paul and her partner Monica Stevens, and Kathryn, wife of Brandyn Mowers; and great grandchildren: Emily and Isabella Benning. She was predeceased by a sister Dolores Eckman. At her request, services will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to Pennsburg United Church of Christ, 775 Main St., Pennsburg, PA 18073, or St. Luke’s Hospice, 240 Union Station Plaza, Bethlehem, PA 18015.
