Edward (Ed) J. Cherry, 79, of Hellertown, peacefully passed away surrounded by his loved ones on Friday, April 26, 2024.
Born in Orange, NJ, he was the son of the late Millard and Mary (Cramer) Cherry. Ed served proudly in the United States Army. He went on to become a mail carrier before working as a manager at the Bell Atlantic Telephone Company for many years.
Ed spent 57 years married to the love of his life, Sandra Lee (Mosher) Cherry. He valiantly fought cancer for years to have as much time with Sandy as possible, and their remarkable love and commitment to each other was an inspiration to all who knew them.
His proudest accomplishment was the family that he and Sandy created. Along with his wife, he is survived by his children: Edward Jr, husband of Joya; Craig, husband of Leslie; Karen, wife of Kevin Collins; grandchildren: Marc, Matthew, Jason, Nicolette, Grace, Lily, and Sean; and siblings: Barbara Kelly, and Millard Cherry.
Ed loved spending time with his children and grandchildren, each of whom remember him fondly for the memories created together and the interest and pride he took in their lives. His door was always open and his grandchildren treasured the time they shared with him, from family camping trips to “Camp Grandma and Pop” in the summertime.
He had many interests and hobbies throughout his life. He loved to play the guitar and go antiquing, had a wide library of books on his Nook, and told the best stories about his childhood and time in the Army. His pot roast recipe is a family favorite, and he’s passed on a love of Mike and Ike’s and jelly donuts. He also greatly loved his dogs, Daisy, Heidi, and Brynlee.
Ed was a loved and respected member of his community, always willing to lend a helping hand. He will be remembered for his kindness, work ethic, and dedication to his family, and he will be missed greatly.
Services will be held privately.
