Doris Rhode

Doris Kent Rhode, 86, of Barto, died March 9, 2008, at Pottstown Memorial Medical Center. She was the widow of Marvin Charles Rhode. Born in Suffield, Ohio, and raised in Hamburg, PA, she was a daughter of the late Charles Stone and Henrietta Scott Kent. Doris was a 1939 graduate of Hamburg High School. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, cooking, bowling, and attending North Penn Symphony Orchestra and North Penn Community Concerts. She was a North Penn Hospital Volunteer for over 25 years, a driver for the American Cancer Society, and she hosted over 15 foreign exchange students for Rotary International. She is survived by daughters, Sue Ann Rhode of Fairfield, CT, Gerry Ellen Roberts of Dallas, TX, Margaret Alice Rhode of Austin, TX, Amy Helen Scott of Barto, PA, and Nancy Jean Ropiejko of Gdansk, Poland; two granddaughters, Shavaun Elysse Roberts of Colorado Springs, CO, and Anita Jean Ropiejko of Gdansk, Poland; and two grandsons, Matthew Charles Ropiejko of Gdansk, Poland, and Benjamin William Scott of Barto, PA. Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister Mary Louise Kent; brothers Charles Scott Kent and Edward Duane Kent; and a granddaughter Brianna Grace Roberts. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, March 11, at 1:00 P.M., at the New Hanover United Methodist Church, 2211 Swamp Pike, Gilbertsville, PA. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in her memory to the North Penn Symphony Orchestra, P.O. Box 694, Lansdale, PA 19446, OR the American Heart Association.
