Donald Dearie

Donald Knight Dearie, Sr., 82, passed away peacefully at his son’s home in Forks Township surrounded by his family on Tuesday, June 8th, 2010. Born August 9th, 1927 in Fairview, NJ, he was a son of the late Howard and Pansy (Knight) Dearie. He was the beloved husband to the late Diane B. Dearie, with whom he celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary August 18th, 2007. He served proudly in WWII as a Signalman in the Navy, and then served the Air Force in the Korean Conflict. After WWII, he attended Fordham University while raising his family in Oakland, NJ. He retired from North American Phillip Corporation in Piscataway, NJ. He and his wife were very active in Oakland, NJ, prior to moving to Palmer Township in 1981. He was very involved in the Boy Scouts, holding many leadership positions as well as Scout Master to Troop 369. One of his most proud moments was to be an Eagle Scout himself and to have all 4 of his sons and 1 grandson attain that rank as well. He was an active member, and until recently, a lector at the Saturday evening service, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Nazareth. He was a past Post Commander for American Legion, Post #369, Oakland; as well as past Post Commander for Post #9, Palmer Township. He was a life member in the VFW Post 5119, Glen Gardner, NJ. He served for 51 years in the La Societe Des 40 Hommes et 8 Chavaux, Voiture Locale #697. He was very proud to be Northampton County’s Veteran of the Year in 1993. Surviving are 4 sons: Douglas S., and wife Betty, of Duval, WA; David G., and wife Jacki, of Cape Coral, FL; Donald K, Jr, and wife Joanne, of Attleboro, MA; and Duncan T., and wife Patty, of Forks Township; brother-in-law, Edwin Faigle, Jr, of Kingsport, TN, and 13 grandchildren. Services: A Memorial Service will be held at 1 PM on Sunday, June 20th, 2010 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 200 Broad Street, Nazareth, PA 18064. The Falk Funeral Homes & Crematory, Hellertown, is in charge of arrangements. Contributions: In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church.
