Daniel N. Shope Jr., passed away peacefully on October 6, 2025, at the age of 72. Born on April 17, 1953, in Washington,D.C. and raised in Haddonfield, New Jersey, Daniel was the son of the late Daniel Shope Sr. and S. Sprague Dubois. He was a longtime resident of the Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania, where he cherished his family and community throughout his life. Dan graduated from Haddonfield High School as a multi-sport athlete. Dan earned his bachelor's degree in Biology and studied journalism at Rutgers University. He served as a sports writer and subsequently was an award-winning business writer and Sunday columnist for The Morning Call. Dan's gift for listening to others' stories led him to volunteer with Lehigh Valley Hospital where he interviewed elderly patients about their lives. He also volunteered for many years with Meals on Wheels.
Dan felt the most important ingredient for life was love. A kind, gentle, and patient man whose witty sense of humor lit up the room. Dan's love for waterskiing, Lake Winnipesaukee, dogs, and Philadelphia sports have left a legacy in his family.
Daniel is survived by his loving spouse, Theresa Shope; his children: Colin Shope, husband of Brielle; Erin Shope, and her significant other, Andy Gleasman; and his granddaughter Stella. His presence will be greatly missed by family, friends, and colleagues alike.
