Clyde J. Ackerman Jr., 80, of Red Hill, passed away on February 28, 2015. He was the beloved husband of Phyllis (Hillegass) Ackerman. They celebrated 61 years of marriage last October. Born in East Greenville, he was a son of the late Clyde and Elsie (Deischer) Ackerman. He was a graduate of East Greenville High School. He served his country honorably in the US Air Force. Clyde spent his career at Ameteck US Guage in Sellersville rising to the position of General Manager. After his retirement, he enjoyed driving a van for Norman Hunsberger Bus Company in East Greenville. He was a member of New Goshenhoppen United Church of Christ in East Greenville. He was also very active in the Upper Perkiomen Valley community, serving as Mayor of Red Hill from 1977 – 1981; serving on the Zoning Board in Red Hill for many years; serving on the Red Hill Water Authority for many years; and as a member of the Red Hill Fire Company and the Upper Perkiomen Ambulance Corp. He was also a volunteer for the Boy Scouts. He was a long time driver for the Red Cross Blood Mobile and he delivered Meals on Wheels.
Surviving with his wife are sons: Clyde Michael and his wife Lori of Fleetwood, and Stephen and his wife Sheri of Emmaus; daughters: Constance, wife of Mark Reynolds of Glen Burnie, MD, and Angela, wife of Robert Hunter of Upper Macungie; six grandchildren: April, wife of Chad DeLillo; Jenna Ackerman; Amanda Ackerman; Alexander Pistolas; Hannah Ackerman; and Nathan Ackerman; and six great grandchildren: Dylan, Cameron, Morgan, Kile, Logan, and Michael; and a sister Norma Stoudt, of Palm. He was predeceased by a sister Naomi at a young age.
A funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Friday at New Goshenhoppen UCC, 1070 Church Rd., East Greenville, PA 18041. All are invited to a visitation in church from 10 – 11 AM. Interment will be held privately.
