Claude Joseph Hafner, 88, of Bethlehem, passed away at home on July 24, 2010. Born July 13, 1922, in Bethlehem, he was a son of the late Joseph A. and Rose (Tyhun) Hafner. He was a graduate of Liberty High School and Lehigh University, where he received a BS in Accounting. He served his country honorably in World War II as a First Lieutenant in the 70th Infantry Division, 3rd Army in the European Theater. He was awarded a Purple Heart, a Bronze Star, and the Distinguished Service Cross. He was retired from the former Bethlehem Steel Corp where he worked in the Main Office and Northampton County where he worked as an auditor. While employed at the Bethlehem Steel he was granted several US Patents. Survivors: his wife of 57 years, Marian (Harhigh) Hafner; a daughter Kim of Bethlehem; a son C.J. and his wife Jody of Carlisle; and a grandson and granddaughter. He was preceded in death by a brother Charles A. Hafner and a sister Evelyn Doster. Services: At his request, services will be held privately.
