Claire Chovanes

Claire Chovanes, 92, of Huffs Church, and formerly of Bala Cynwyd, passed into the arms of God at home July 12, 2021. She was the widow of Eugene Chovanes. Born in Hazleton, she was a daughter of the late George and Magda (Szabo) Puhak. Claire was an x-ray technician at Wills Eye Hospital, Philadelphia, before she undertook her life’s work- that of a loving and unselfish daughter, wife and mother to husband Eugene and five children. She was a long-time parishioner and Rosary Guild member at St. Matthias Catholic Church in Bala Cynwyd. She was currently a member of Most Blessed Sacrament Church in Bally. Claire’s greatest joy in life was God and her family. In today’s era of the self, she was the anti-self. In today’s era of the ego, she was the anti-ego. She was a most unselfish person, and lived her life with faith and love without fanfare or blather. She was a great prayer warrior and was particularly devoted to the great prayer of the Rosary. Surviving are her children: Dr. Michael Chovanes and his wife, Mary; Dr. George Chovanes and his wife Margaret, all of Alburtis; Julie Chovanes, Esq. of Philadelphia; daughter-in-law Martha Chovanes, Esq., Dr. John Chovanes and his wife, Samantha, daughter-in-law Dr. Jacqueline Chovanes, of Carlisle; a brother Monsignor Nicholas Puhak, of Cunningham, PA; 13 grandchildren Christina, Michael, Catherine, Kathryn Lily, Anna, Alexander, Caroline, Jack, Sophia, Olivia, Anastasia, Henry, and Claire; 8 great grandchildren: Magdalene, Gabriel, Lucy, Levi, Gavaghan, Sylvie, Mercy Rose, Elizabeth. She was pre-deceased by siblings: George and Theresa Puhak. A Funeral Mass will be on Monday, July 19th at 11 AM at Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 610 Pine Street, Bally. Friends may visit from 10-10:45 AM at the church. Interment will follow at 2 PM at West Laurel Hill Cemetery, 321 Belmont Avenue, Bala Cynwyd.
