Charlotte Elaine Platt Schwantes, 91, of the Phoebe Richland Health Care Center, passed away peacefully on December 31, 2021 after suffering from Alzheimer’s for many years. She was surrounded by her children. She was the widow of the late Roy Edward Platt and the late James Robert Schwantes. Born in Frederick, OK, she was the daughter of the late Hoyle Kenneth and Lillie Mae (Ater) Haynes. Charlotte lived most of her early life in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. After her first marriage to Roy E. Platt in 1952, she moved household, children and dogs numerous times, finally settling in New Jersey until his death in 1978. In 1979, she married James R. Schwantes, and lived in Florida, then returned to Oklahoma City, where they lived until his death in 2011. Charlotte then moved to Pennsylvania to be near her 4 children. During her life, she was a member of various churches, and actively involved in local garden clubs. She was a talented hostess, meticulous homemaker, and gardener. Charlotte was devoted to her family. She was gracious and kind, and she made others feel special with her words, smiles and laughter. In spite of her disease, she was able to show love, and gratitude with grace and humility until the end. Surviving are her 4 children: Jodie Platt Butz and husband James H. Butz of Allentown PA, Kim Edward Platt and wife Deborah Engish Platt of Point Pleasant, PA, Vicki Platt Messina and husband John Messina of Fountainville, PA, and Kane Kenneth Platt and wife Julia Ryan Platt of Brooklyn, NY; 7 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren. Her children express their heartfelt thanks to the all the caregivers and staff at the Phoebe Richland Health Care Center. Their loving kindness and dedication to caring for her during the last years of her life were deeply appreciated by both Charlotte and her family. They are especially grateful for the gentle and loving support of both Charlotte and her family in her final days. Services will be private.
