Charles Davis

Charles Davis, 93, formerly of East Greenville, died Tuesday, April 22, 2008 in Brackenville, Delaware. He was the husband of Edith (Eaton) Davis who celebrated their 70th Anniversary in 2007. Born in Bryn Mawr, he was the son the late William and Alice (Hewitt) Davis. Mr. Davis graduated from Girard College in Philadelphia in 1934 after which he worked as a machinist for The Budd Company in Philadelphia, DuPont in Wilmington, DE, and General Electric in King of Prussia. He owned gun shops in Philadelphia and West Chester and later moved to East Greenville where he and his wife owned and operated the Twin-S Gun Club on Jane’s Lane in Lower Milford Township. Mr. Davis was a World War II army veteran, serving as a rifleman in the 104th Timberworlf Division in Holland and Germany. He was a sniper and at various times performed most every job from medic to acting battalion commander, as a private first class. His rifleman’s experience started in 1934 when he fired as a member of a winning rifle team in the Pennsylvania National Guard. He coached and fired on the winning regimental rifle team in the 104th Division when they were stationed in California. He also won most of the individual rifle matches. In 1958 he was awarded the gold Distinguished Rifleman’s Medal by the Director of Civilian Marksmanship, U.S. Army. For 30 years he was the president of the Twin-S Gun Club on Jane’s Lane, Lower Milford Township, retiring in 1995. Jane’s Lane was named after his daughter who was killed by a drunken driver while Davis was stationed in Georgia in 1944. He was a member of the VFW Post in Red Hill and the American Legion Post in Palm. He was a Christian and attended Faith evangelical Free Church in Trexlertown. He supported many Christian missionaries and organizations throughout the world. Survivors: Wife, son, William, and his wife Jackie, of Lincoln University, PA; brother, Albert of Broomall; sister Florence Dupille of Hickory, NC; four grandchildren, Jessica, Billie Jean, Anthony, and Wesley.
