Catherine G. Miller, 87, of Hellertown, passed away peacefully on February 28. Born in Bethlehem, she was the daughter of the late Boris and Elizabeth (Cherkis) Grigoruk. She was preceded in death by her husband of 31 years, Roland Robert Miller Jr., who passed away in 1993. Catherine was a devoted member of St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox Church.
Catherine’s administrative career began in the Purchasing Department at the Bethlehem Steel. She later transitioned to Lehigh University, where she worked for thirty-one years in the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department before retiring. Catherine found great joy in working with students, helping them achieve their academic goals, and offering what many fondly referred to as "motherly advice”. She also contributed to the preparation of several technical engineering publications.
Throughout her life, Catherine remained active and dedicated to her community. She regularly volunteered her time and energy at her church, where she enjoyed preparing delicious pierogies, kiffles, rolls, and breads for various church events. In her leisure time, Catherine enjoyed dancing, baking, attending theater performances, playing pinochle, solving puzzles, and reading suspense novels. She cherished opportunities to travel both domestically and abroad. Most memorably, you could often find her catching up with old friends and neighbors as she worked in her yard, tending to her beautiful garden. Catherine’s passion for living allowed her to live a long and rewarding life.
She is survived by her children: David Miller, Donna Cole, wife of Christopher, and Leslie Repyneck, wife of David; grandchildren: Sean, husband of Bridget, Sarah, fiancé of Jay, Lauren, and Paige. Catherine was predeceased by her husband, Roland, and her siblings: Helen Ballek, Walter Grigoruk, and Michael Grigoruk.
A viewing will take place on Friday, March 7th, beginning at 9 am at St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox Church, 980 Bridle Path Rd., Bethlehem, PA 18017 and will be followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 am. Following the Mass, Catherine will be laid to rest beside her husband in Hellertown Union Cemetery.
