Beatrice C. Civello

December 26, 1937 — September 26, 2023

Beatrice Civello, 85, of Hellertown, PA passed away on 9/26/2023 at home, with her daughter and husband of almost 62 years by her side. She was born to parents John and Winnifred Egan on 12/26/1937 in Cloonchambers, Castlerea, Ireland. One of 6 children, she was the oldest of the 3 girls. She spent her childhood days on the family farm tending to chores with her mammy, helping her daddy with the chickens, riding the back of the stubborn family donkey, and running barefoot through the beautiful green pastures with her siblings Kitty, Nuala, Tommy, Jack and Finbar. As she became a young woman, she dreamed of going to America, where she was told “the streets are paved with gold.” In 1955 at the age of 17, she left her beautiful Ireland and came to America where she met her one and only, her “Hon”, Joseph Civello. They were married on 9/30/1961 in Brooklyn, NY. Together they raised three wonderful children: Norma, Joseph and Thomas.

Gifted with a mathematical mind, Beatrice worked as a bookkeeper for the Celanese Corporation. While her children were young, she embraced the role of full-time mom and homemaker. By any standard of the era, she was an exceptional wife and mother. Once her children grew up, she worked for Zale Jewelers in their NYC diamond room for a few years until she found her favorite job, working for a local bank in Staten Island. There she rose to the position of Head Teller and ran a very tight ship. She was hard working, efficient and well respected by the wonderful group she worked alongside of. They loved her and she loved them. Once retired from the Bank, she relocated to Hellertown, PA.

Her passion was her family. She was the “rock,” the one who held it all together. Her husband and children were the most important part of her life and she cared deeply for them and her extended family. She loved to host Sunday dinners, big family gatherings for the holidays and everything in between. She loved her nieces and nephews and was always available to lend a hand, listen, or give hugs. Her greatest joy was getting to see her four handsome grandsons grow into beautiful young men. She was “Gammy” to Brandon and Chris and “Grandma” to Joe and Ryan.

Survived by her beloved husband, Joseph; her children Norma, Joseph and Thomas; daughter in-laws Susan and Jennifer, son in-law Bill; four cherished grandsons, Brandon, Chris, Joe and Ryan; brother Tommy and sister Nuala, she will be deeply missed.

“Time may soften the blow, but your memory won’t fade. Not a day will go by that we won’t wish you could have stayed.”
