Abraham D. Pennebacker, 97, of Zionsville, passed away peacefully on December 21, 2023, at his home, surrounded by his family and loved ones. Born in Allentown on September 2, 1926, he was a son of Abraham D. and Marion (Beatty) Pennebacker. He was the husband of the late Carole E. (Yerby) Pennebacker.
Abraham operated Pennebacker Orchards with his brother Samuel. Pennebacker Orchards operated for 46 years, growing apples and peaches, under Abraham’s leadership. He attended Penn State University, majoring in horticulture. Abraham was an avid skier, both alpine and cross-country. In the winter months, he utilized the 150-acre orchard as a cross-country ski area called Apple Valley. Abraham served as President of the Macungie Lions Club and was a member of the Upper Milford Zoning Board. He was also a member of the Zion’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Old Zionsville. An expert trout fisherman, he loved life, people, and animals.
Abraham is survived by his three children, A. Daniel and his wife Michele of Zionsville, David and his wife Deborah of Benton, PA, and Anne and her husband Keith Kahlbaugh of York, PA; and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
