A. Dovie May, of Warminster, PA, and formerly of the Upper Perkiomen Valley, died August 4, 2009. She is the wife of Edward A. May. The couple celebrated 67 years of marriage last October. Born in Kirby, AR, she was a daughter of the late Albert and Lydia (Shinkle) Powell. Dovie was an active and passionate supporter of education, and volunteered in both public and private schools wherever she lived. She was a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Surviving with her husband, are 6 daughters: Barbara, wife of Gary Hordemann, of Spokane, WA; Veronica, wife of Robert Legg, of Battle Ground, WA; Marion, wife of John Rourke, of Locust Grove, VA; Rita, wife of Thomas Lee, of Santee, CA; Arlene, wife of Alfred DiSipio Jr., of Moorestown, NJ; and Carolyn May Essel, of Media, PA; 13 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren. She was pre-deceased by brothers Monroe, Albert, Lloyd, and Robert; and a sister, Lillian. Funeral Mass will be on Saturday, at 11 AM at St. Phillip Neri Catholic Church, 1325 Klinerd Road, Pennsburg, PA 18073. Friends may call from 10-10:45 AM on Saturday at the church. This fund was created in honor of her mother, who had to leave school in the fourth grade to plow fields on a farm in Arkansas. This was Dovie’s inspiration for her lifelong devotion to education.
